I live in a house built in 1952, is a 66 year old houses' wiring going to be an issue when using powerline adapters?
ReplyDelete4:25 you have no idea how hard I just cringed
ReplyDeleteI just bought a HomePlug AV-compliant AV600 from TP-Link, though that would only be a temporary solution, as my family might be moving to a new house with built-in Ethernet wiring.
ReplyDeleteReasons are simple: no difference from wired gigabit despite me using a gigabit internet and downloading stuff are all under 100mbps so I found no point dumping in MORE money on the AV2 standard.
You missed the biggest caveat. In North America, both outlets need to be on the same side of the 240. If they are, Homeplug works; if not, it don't. Period. If this doesn't make sense to you look at the WikiPedia article on how 240 coming into your home turns into 120 volts.
ReplyDeleteIf you want the short version, think of a 240 volt sine wave. Draw a horizontal line through the middle. If you take the line plus the top or bottom, you get 120 volts. If you take the top and the bottom you get 240 volts.
At my house my wiring isnt the best and poweline speeds cap out at 34 megabit/s. I got that speed using my old 200mb adapters, so then i borrowed a friends 500mb more recent ones for testing. same exact results: capped at 34mb/s. Guess that's how far my crappy 20 year old wiring goes.
ReplyDeleteGreat video Linus and friends! Just to clarity u need two adapters where as if I'm using a range extender I only need one?
ReplyDeleteCan people see it data in another apartment
ReplyDeleteAaaaaaaaaand I'm done watching this after the network congestion pun.
ReplyDeleteGuys please help me out. Does anyone know the difference between these three models? They all say AV2000...

ReplyDeleteI AM IN THE 1000PBIT+ FAMILY!!!
ReplyDeleteHow about power line vs a proper wifi AP. Im using a Ubiquiti AP and its pure bliss.
ReplyDeleteYou don't age wtf? 2k9 to 2k17 you don't age i'm confused?
ReplyDeleteah yeah thepatent ran out on this remember seeing it on tomorrows world in late 80s then it got suppressed
ReplyDeleteSo... anyone know if power surges can fry these things? I'm in Florida we get a lot of summer lightning, anyone know?
ReplyDeleteWhy microwave hate so much internet fucks wifi and power line
ReplyDeleteIf you're thinking of using one of these things you really ought to do yourself and any ham radio guys in your neighborhood a big favor and talk to them first. These things cause just all kinds of interference on the HF amateur radio bands. The way to know if you got a ham guy in your neighborhood is to look above all the houses in your neighborhood and see if some guys got the world's largest TV antenna they're called HF beams. If you see a guy with one of these big big huge antennas above the roof knock on their door he'll be friendly ask him if he's still active in the amateur community. If he is don't buy one of these things.
ReplyDeleteThanks, bro.
ReplyDeletecould you run usb over ethernet over powerline
ReplyDeleteI just moved to a place which had a superfast hub but was left devastated when my room was in a dead spot, opted for a powerline instead of a wifi extender. Worked brilliantly and got a way faster connection than anticipated. TP Link AV600 2 port passthrough. Plug and play, so easy to set up.
ReplyDeleteIf you have old electrical in your home I do not recccomend.
ReplyDeleteBut will it penetrate my tinfoil hat?
ReplyDeleteWho gets G-Fuel in the middle of the night?
ReplyDeletei use powerline
ReplyDeleteYour explanation is very knowledgable, vivid, to my opion you can also stand in front of a classroom or perhaps you just want to work, THANKS .
ReplyDeleteyou don't need to plug directly throught the wall.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the difference between powerline adapters and mesh WiFi such as Netgear Orbi? Which is better in terms of coverage, connection speed, reliability and stability?
ReplyDeleteDuck:So like are you single?
ReplyDeletethe powerline adapters we use have a "link" button on the top of them
