Fingerprint scanners built into phones and computers make it easy to gain access without a clunky password or PIN, but how have they gone from the realm of spy films to becoming a mainstay on modern consumer gadgets?

  17. 2:48 i don't believe there are things one can't reverse engineer. i mean, they say the fingerprint data can't be accessed by OS and apps, but somehow the fingerprint get's matched when unlocking and it happens within the os. so, technically, there must be a way through which the Enclave and the system communicate. and if there's a whole, all that is left is to widen it, right? also i don't like to sound paranoid but i don't think i must believe whatever the manufacturer says by default. if some reputable programmer would deconstruct the whole touch id system in some video admitting "yep can't be accessed from anywhere" i'd be more convinced, but the companies themselves - they've got all the reasons in the world to distort facts about how their software really works.
