If you want to purposely block your phone just put your phone in airplane mode

Back in the (mainframe) days, a data center was built at an air force base in the state where I live. Unfortunately, when they activated it, the (large) disk drives would periodically have voltage spikes and drops causing problems. It was discovered that the ground control radar for the airplanes periodically swept the building in its circular sweep. The initial and temporary solution was to wrap the building in chicken wire which seemed to work until a more permanent solution could be implemented.

    Hi Linus,
I live in a condominium and I see anywhere form 15 to 20 Wi-Fi signals coming into my home. All of which are competing/searching for open channels. This is happening both on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
Needless to say, wifi performance is significantly hindered as soon as I walk away from my SOHO router.
Since I live on the top floor, I thought I would tare the flooring and install a wire mesh, like a carpet, before reinstalling the whole thing.
What do you think of my idea? Do you think it would work?
    Ben

We have a large hill right behind us that works like this. Until we got cable tv in 1995 we only picked up one tv channel. Same with cell phones here. Only one carrier barely worked..Verizon. The rest no signal at all. And Verizon had only 1 bar. 2 houses down though that could get 2 tv channels :)

Hey, I've often considered having "faraday material" built into home walls to prevent the 100+ wifi signals in my neighborhood from confusing my router...lol, but seriously!

My school is old and has metal all over so you can only get about a bar inside the school so an Accidental Faraday Cage

It should be noted that Faraday cages need to be grounded in order to function properly.

No Linus, that's BS. Nothing to do with positive and negative charges. You were close, it's because metal can conduct electricity, and RF is not electricity. And it's smaller than 1/4 wavelength for obvious reasons.

Synergy 2 is terrible! I've tried it on multiple Mac machines, and it will stop working for no apparent reason. In order to get it working again you have to shut the service down and start it again, which is annoying. Though I'm not sure how it performs on Windows, I know I have the same problems between my Linux boxes! So, I kind of wish Linus would stop promoting them. Thank you for reading this Linus!
